Advice for More Effective Searching

• Remember - this is an education oriented site. While there is some other information, looking for completely non-educational information, people, resources, images, … , is almost certainly going to be less than successful.
• Know what you are looking for. Just entering any general word, or even a person’s first name [yes, it really happens !], for a given topic will only waste your time.
• Using Search Engines More Effectively on the
  Searching the Internet page will provide basic advice on how to narrow your search to more precisely get what you want.
• If it is not spelt correctly, you will not find it. You might find something else [?], but it won’t be what you are after. It is amazing how often people misspell even common words when entering keywords into a search engine.
  This includes the use of capital letters, where appropriate.
• If you are not successful the first time, request a larger or related area and see if this helps. For example, if you enter ‘Aboriginal stories’ and it is not successful, try one of the following - Aborigines, Stories, Dreamtime, Aboriginal Culture, Australian Stories, … . They may help you find what you want.
• Don’t give up hope for the future ! We check the search engine data and are continually working to add material related to major search items, where it does not already exist, as well as other material we see to be relevant to the site.
