Staff and students at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) can utilise the support of the Learning and Teaching Support Unit (LTSU)

The Learning and Teaching Support Unit (LTSU) provides assistance to students, staff and faculties to enhance the quality of learning, teaching, assessment and programs of study at USQ.

LTSU services for students include orientation, face-to-face and online support to enhance academic learning skills.

Services for staff include the production of web-based resources, professional development programs, teaching summits, communities of practice, induction to tertiary teaching, and ongoing support for curriculum development.

Schools throughout Queensland have adopted "Outcomes Based Education" as a process for steering Curriculum and Unit Planning, and Teaching Methods.

For many teachers, this has meant some changes to the way we might traditionally plan and deliver our lessons.

Ultimately, our goal might be to have our students engaged to a higher degree, thus producing high standard work and being better prepared for life in the 21st Century.

Teachers will be seen as "managers of learning" rather than the "providers of all knowledge." The relationships between students and teachers will still be critical to the learning process.

The use of "Outcomes" rather than "Objectives" in Curriculum Planning might also cause concern for teachers. Many of our teachers and administrators are still grappling with the issue.. "Are objectives and outcomes the same thing?" The following link addresses this issue.
