GENERAL GATEWAY SITES FOR CHILDREN'S LITERATURE

Books and Reading
A wonderful Australian site designed by Jill ball for ASLA(NSW). It provides a comprehensive portal site for teachers wishing to gain access to quality Children's Literature resources on the web. From here you can access detailed information on Associations, Book Awards, Teaching Resources, Journals and even find links to specialist Children's Publishers and Booksellers.

Book Lists
Would you like to know which were the "100 Books that shaped the Century?" Do you want a Book List on a particular topic or theme for your classroom Literature program? Look no further. Jill Ball has provided a comprehensive set of book lists and bibliographies for students K-12. The lists are available on the ASLA(NSW) site. A valuable resource.

Focus on Fiction
Excellent site from Western Australian Deprtment of Education, which provides a comprehensive resource for teachers of Children,s Literature. It contains fiction lists for students organised by author, genre and age. There are also links to authors, illustrators and publisher sites along with many practical ideas for teaching Literature in the classroom.

Dromkeen _
The Home of the Australian Children's Literature Collection, a unique collection of original artwork, manuscripts and other pre-publication material from Australian children's books.

Children's Literature Web Guide
One of the best known international sites on the web. Comprehensive and worth a visit but may not have been updated recently. Consequently some links may not work.

Carol Hursts Children's Literature Site
This is a collection of reviews of great books for kids, ideas of ways to use them in the classroom and collections of books and activities about particular subjects, curriculum areas, themes and professional topics. USQ Children's literature _ a portal site

Children's Book Council of Australia
The Children's Book Council of Australia aims to foster children's enjoyment of books through a range of activities including the annual book of the year awards.

International Children's Book Awards
This site lists international awards for Children's Literature including the Caldecott Medal; Newberry Honour List; Hans Christian Andersen and Kate Greenway medals.

Children's Choice Awards (Australia)
This page provides links to the Children's Choice Awards offered in each state including the YABBA and KOALA awards.

Catching Literature in the Net - PEN 117

Primary English teachers Association (PETA) article available online. It discusses using the Internet to assist teachers and children to enjoy reading all a full range of texts and in all varieties of contexts.

Book Raps

A Book Rap is a book discussion conducted via electronic mail. Individuals or groups of students from across the country or around the world can discuss the scheduled books. The Book Rap site is coordinated by Oz Teacher Net.

Read Around Australia

This site coordinated by Barbara Braxton (Teacher Librarian Extraordinaire) is designed to enrich and enhance your students' literacy development by using Information Technology to unite students across Australia in celebrating the joy of reading. In the months leading up to Book Week students can participate in a variety of actual and online activities.
