| bushtucker | The Bush Tucker Gardens @ Alex Hills SHSThe gardens were planted in about June 2002 in a very degraded area amid some existing native trees. The soil was mainly a sand - clay mixture with little humus, and a hard shiny water repellant surface. The area was prepared by ripping the ground to between 300 to 600 mm depth, and adding gypsum. After planting mulch was added to help water retention. Below are photos of the area before preparation. After PlantingThe following are photos taken about 18 months after planting. Aboriginal PaintingAn aboriginal painting was painted by a local artist on a wall adjacent to the gardens to complement the theme.
