Mail Merge & Spreadsheets

Name: __________________________

Date Due: _______________________

Background

One of the most commonly used functions of word processors in modern businesses is a mail merge. This allows businesses to contact many people in a very efficient way. In the past secretaries would need to type many letters over and over with changes to names and addresses or send out a one generic letter with no personal details. With a mail merge clients or prospective clients can receive a letter, including personal details, with the secretary only writing one version of the letter.

Another tool that is commonly used by businesses is a spreadsheet. This tool allows the user to tabulate statistical information, calculate results and produce charts. Once these charts are produced they are often sent to clients or prospective clients in the form of a letter to show performance of the company.

The Task

You are to produce a mail merged business letter for an imaginary company that includes a chart inserted from a spreadsheet. The company you use and the information you provide is entirely up to you. Remember though that you will receive a higher mark for the complexity of your letter and chart. It is also hoped that your spreadsheet will include a calculation.

Note: It is essential that your letter is in the format of a business letter.
