One of the problems that I found in the ROBOLAB manual was that it did not explain clearly how to create a blank, new document. As a result I have found a "back-door" method that I would hope is not the only way to create a new file. Step 1: Creating a personal folder
The first step is to create your own folder to save your work to. At the first window of ROBOLAB select Administrator: In the administrator window there are three tabs available. Select the center tab to open the ROBOLAB Settings.
Here it is possible to add a new folder, set the path for ROBOLAB and change the path to the Program Vault. To add a new folder click the icon at the bottom of the "Theme" window that looks like: This will open a new window that allows you to name the new folder:
Type the name of the folder you want a click on the tick. You have now created your own space to store the programs you create. Now you need to press the back button at the bottom of the window to return to the opening screen. At the opening screen select "Programmer". This will open a screen similar to the following.
If you click "Inventor Vault" you will see the folder that you created previously now amongst the list. If you click your folder it will show nothing in the program window. This means you have no files and shows a big fault in ROBOLAB. There seems to be no way to create a blank document. The method I used is as follows: Click on "Amusement Park" and double click on "Bumper Car 2.vi" this will open "Inventor". When Inventor is first opened there are no tools available select items with. You will need to go to Window on the file menu and select "Show tools menu". This will open a new window:
Now click the "Pointer". This will allow you to select all of the components in the window to delete them. Just pressing the delete button can do this. Now you have a blank document. Now go to the file menu and select save as.. . Use the save menu to locate your folder and save the file with the name "template". It should be C:\Robolab\Program Vault\Inventor\Your file name. When you return to the ROBOLAB you will find that your folder has a file called "template" in it. This file will be your short cut method to creating a new, blank file whenever you need it.
