What can you do? I have discussed some ideas in the previous section but there are many ideas that can change depending on who you are teaching and what you want them to gain from the experience. I personally want to use the RCX to show computer control. I think that it is great that there is a Scout and Mini Scout, but they are not what I want my kids to learn about. I ideally want my students to begin with simple ideas and make simple vehicles that use sensors and gradually build up their skills until they can control the RCX through Visual Basic and the like. If you ask Jim Fuller I have always wanted to use a joystick through the computer to control the RCX in real-time. If you search some of the sites I have included on this site you will find that there are many avenues for you to use the RCX in your class. The Lego Mindstorms web site contains many extra activities and challenges for your students, using Mindstorms or Robolab. I feel the best idea is to get the kit, find out what you are comfortable teaching and teach it! I have also run a course (only once, so excuse the lack of refinement) which is available from this site http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/dbrown/8162/8162.htm. The RCX assignment is Task #2.
