Urgent Monty! Please Help! - You are Monty - the Today program's weather presenter, working on location somewhere in Australia when you receive an urgent phone call from the studio telling you of a natural disaster heading your way. They are desperate to put out a disaster warning and need you to prepare it. Just then your mobile phone starts breaking up and you don't hear what type of disaster it is. You can't contact the studio and you don't have time to prepare for all types of disasters so you must choose the three most likely to occur in the location you are working.

Newspapers

Extra! Extra! - (Years 5-6) This unit looks at the development of skills in writing a report suitable for newspaper publication. It moves step by step through a range of activities that lead to the final aim of producing an effective report with suitable headline, photo and caption. It offers suggestions for modeling with students, and gives examples of questions that can be used to generate discussions and enhance learning. It includes links to other Internet resources suitable to developing the topic.

Read All About It - (Years 4-6) This unit looks at making a school newspaper for years 5-6. It gives ideas on how to set up the class newspaper by using bulk orders of newspapers.

ABC: In Space - This ABCTV site has information & activities including Southern Sky Watch, Meet the Neighbours, & a section on Dr Andy Thomas, as well as other features.

A Journey Through Space - (Years 3-4) A unit in which students are taken through the resource-based learning/inquiry process. Students will be encouraged to explore a variety of resources, both paper and electronic, to find out about the solar system and history of space travel. Students will work together to produce a Hyperstudio page to share their learning.
