Tannum Sands   Queensland   Australia

Calliope Shire Council's Millennium Project

The Millennium Esplanade is located at Tannum Sands, a beautiful town on the Central Queensland coast, just 20 minutes south of Gladstone. It provides the Tannum Sands/Boyne Island community with a variety of  recreational facilities.

The theme of the esplanade is sea and beach which attracts many tourists and locals.

The Surf Life Saving Club is surrounded by a rotunda, shelters, barbecues, a children's playground and many easy access paths to the safe, sandy beach.
Many people enjoy coming to this safe and enjoyable area as there are many things to do. Every Sunday in summer many children participate in a range of activities which is run by the Surf Life Saving Association. The nippers are in an age range of 7 to 16.

The Hippocampus Whitei (Seahorse) sculpture at the Millennium Esplanade represents the "important role that industries play in the the future of our region."  The artist Christopher Trotter made the sculpture with materials obtained from heavy and rural industries within Calliope Shire.

On Saturday the 6th of May 2000, Calliope Shire Council were announced the winners of the Tourism Project Category of the Queensland Rail Traveltrain Southern Reef / Central Region Tourism Awards. They won this award for the Tannum Sands Millennium Esplanade, an outstanding tourist attraction with recreational facilities.

Our View Of The Millennium Esplanade

Nikki- I enjoy going to the Esplanade on family occasions.  I also love going to the beach with my friends. The park is also very fun and enjoyable.

Leah- I like going to the Millennium Esplanade for barbecues.  I also like going swimming and enjoy going to the park with friends.  At the playground the flying fox is my favourite.

Sam- I love the Millennium Esplanade because it is a fun place to be at and a good day out.  The playground is great because there are many great activities to do.

Emma- We went to the Esplanade on Christmas for a swim and a Barbecue. My brother and I played on the Flying Fox and the Playground.

Rebecca- The Millennium Esplanade means to me a fun place for the family to go have a barby or a swim.
