A Webquest for Year 3/4 Primary Students
Introduction
The Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games are held every four years. In February and March 2002, they will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Your Task
Your class has won a competition to go to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Where is Salt Lake City? How will you get there? What winter sports are contested at the games? You will first find out where the games are being held, choose the transport your class will use to get there and what events you will attend - as winners of the competition your class is to attend four Olympic and Paralympic events.
Process
Print out your worksheet. (It's a Word 97 document and may take a while to download)
Click here to see where Utah is in the United States, then shade and label Utah on Map A - the United States of America.
After you click here, label Salt Lake City on the map of Utah (Map B) .
Click here to look at a map of the world. On your worksheet, colour your country green on Map C, and the United States blue. Draw a red line from your country to the USA.
On your worksheet, circle the type of transport that you think will be the best for your class to travel on to the Winter Olympic Games.
Take a look at the winter sports (click on "Sports") that will be held at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Choose the four that you would most like to watch and write them in on your worksheet, and why you want to see them.
Conclusion
Now you know where the Winter Olympics are being held, and about some of the sports being contested. Enjoy viewing them yourself in February!
