Presenting Data As A Word Document

Any standard word processor software can be used to give a very effective presentation. Below you will find some useful tips.

There are quite a number of very good word processors currently available. In most High Schools the easiest application to obtain is Microsoft Word. The features described below are common to most word processors.

Where can I find Microsoft Word?

 

In Microsoft Word you have the options of including text, headings, word-art, graphs, tables, lines, shapes, clip art pictures, photographs and even hyperlinks on a page.

 

Text can be added to a page in a few different ways.
you can simply have the students type it in.
If you have researched your information on the internet the students will be able to copy and paste the text directly from the webpage to the document. This should also be possible for information researched on a CD-ROM.
You can also import text from elsewhere. eg text saved on a floppy disk.

Pictures can be added to a page in a number of ways.
They can be added using the clip-art feature.
Photographs can be scanned in and added, or you might be able to borrow your school's digital camera.

 

If the work involved numerical data, this can be added in the form of a table, spreadsheet or graph.

For a fancy heading consider having the students use the Word-Art feature.

For the technologically advanced teacher, consider adding a hyperlink to a page. For example, make a worksheet setting out a problem and add a hyperlink to the bottom of the page which will direct the students to a site with relevant information.
