Welcome
Teachers! This page gives you a few hints and tips to help you make sense of
this Learning Quest and use it most effectively for your students.
Rationale
This quest is designed
for upper primary grades but would be suitable for most year levels doing a civics
and citizenship unit. The purpose of this quest is to focus the students' minds on
the levels of government in Australia and to provide them with an understanding
of their shared responsibilities. The ideal end result will see them using
the knowledge gained from participating in the tasks in a purposeful way - as
mentioned in the 'Conclusion' page. Teaching Sequence
This Learning Quest can be used as a stand alone activity or in as an
integral part of a unit. This quest has been successfully utilised in a
Year 7 unit looking at the journey of democracy - starting at the time of King
John I and the signing of the Magna Carta and ending at today's
government. The quest fitted right in after the Discovering
Democracy unit - 'Parliament
Vs Monarch'. As for the sequencing of the
activities in this Quest, you can mix and match as you see fit i.e. Infomanias,
The Power of 3, Be the Teacher or The Power of 3, Be the Teacher, Infomanias or
even just The Power of 3 and Be the Teacher. The choice is yours.
