Digital Comic Strips

TASK: Make a comic strip using digital photographs

PROGRAM: Microsoft Word

SKILLS: Using tables, importing pictures, using Auto-shapes

Open Microsoft Word and start a new blank document. Insert the floppy disk into the A drive.

Go to FILE > Page Setup > Paper Size and choose 'Landscape' in the Orientation section. Click OK.

Create a 2 X 3 table using the Insert Table tool.

Click inside the first cell of the table. Go to INSERT > Picture > From File.

Choose a JPG picture from the A Drive and insert it. You can resize your picture by dragging on the corner.

Add 6 pictures that you think will best tell a story. Make sure they are all the same size.

When you are happy with your pictures choose 'Auto Shapes' from the bottom of screen. If you can't see this the Drawing Toolbar probably isn't turned on - go to VIEW > Toolbars and check 'Drawing'.

Choose 'Callouts' from the Auto Shapes menu. Use the speech and thought bubbles by dragging them onto your pictures.

You can resize and reshape the speech bubbles by dragging them. You can change the direction of where the speech is coming from by double-clicking on a bubble and positioning the yellow dot to the mouth of the person speaking or thinking.

Add text to the speech bubble, choosing an appropriate font such as Comic Sans. Make sure it is not too big. This part can be quite fiddly so be patient.

Make sure your comic tells a story and the spelling is correct.
Add a title.

When you are finished check with the teacher before printing.
