To stream or not to stream - that is the question

VECO webcast events 1998-1999

The VECO webcasts all share the common feature of being someone else's face to face event. Whilst this added an additional complexity to the logistics of the exercise it was a deliberate attempt to bring quality face to face events to a wider audience than can attend physically.

The three events that have been webcast in real time are summarised below. The links take you to more detail about them depending on your interest.

August 1998: College of Education forum
What: webcast the speakers for the event with a brief follow up chat.
Why?: to trial the technology in an authentic context
What happened: The main aim was to get the technology to work! It did and we learned heaps!

May 1999: Quality VET in Schools conference
What: webcast of two 20 minute keynote speakers to remote audience with chat session immediately afterwards
Why? to bring two excellent speakers to an audience beyond those attending the conference and enable interaction with them

May 1999: Quality VET in Schools conference
Model: Same conference - sound recorded of a set of case studies totalling one hour.
Why? The material was used as part of a web report of the conference, enabling professional sharing of expertise beyond the face to face participants.

[These last two items (Quality VET in Schools conference) combined to provide a "slice" of a face to face conference to be used as a resource for a wider audience than those who attended]

Aug 1999: Workshop from PCETA conference
What: Audio streaming of workshop presenter to remote audience (small groups) with simultaneous chat between remote audience and "shadow presenter"
Why? An ambitious attempt to use these technologies for distance delivery of a workshop that was happening face to face.
