YEAR 8
Various KLA Technology subjects are offered in Year 8, including Computer Technology, Food Technology, Graphics and Shop A.
Computer Technology consists of a Word Processing course, and an introduction to Computer Technology within the College. Students may elect to undertake courses in Computer Technology in years 9 and 10.
Computer related research techniques in the form of Study Skills are taught to all year 8 students during Semester 1.YEARS 9 and 10
Courses are offered in Computer Technology in years 9 and 10. Strands I and III are offered in year 9. Strands II and III are offered to students in year 10. Students may elect to complete both Strands I/II and III if they desire. (Strand I is prerequisite to Strand II.)
Introduction to Multimedia and Programming (IMP) is offered in years 9 and 10.STRAND A: Computer Applications (2 year course)
This elective is an introductory course in computing. Includes the use of applications such as Word, Excel, Publisher, FrontPage and PowerPoint, and Corel PhotoPaint. Students should be familiar with Word and have word processing skills as covered in year 8 Computer Technology at the College. It is an applications-based course designed to enhance a general understanding and use of computing and related technologies. This elective may be linked with the study of Business, Art and Multimedia.
Year 9 will include such topics as:
- Systems
- Internet and Web Page design
- Spreadsheets
- Design Project I - Stationery Products
- Databases for Research
Year 10 will include such topics as:
- Publishing II
- Manipulation of Images - Computer Graphics
- Multi-media presentations
- Design Project II
Pre-requisites: Students must have completed Year 9 Strand A.
STRAND B: Computer Programming (2 year course)
This elective is a course that endeavours to satisfy those Students whose interest in computing is more technically biased.
Please note: this is an extension subject, only those students who demonstrate advanced processing skills should select this elective.Year 9 will include such topics as:
- Systems
- Operating Systems;
- Data and Information (binary, hexadecimal and floating point numerals, and ASCII code);
- Algorithms ( flowcharts, hierarchy charts, pseudocode)
- Introductory Programming - LogoMation, Karel
- Programming - Pascal
- Programming - Visual Basic or Delphi
Pre-requisites: Students must have experience with Microsoft Word, and should demonstrate good problem solving skills.
Year 10 will include such topics as:
- Databases
- Programming
- HTML
- Scripting
- Communication Systems; networks, data coding and transmission
Pre-requisites: Students must have completed Year 9 Strand B, and should demonstrate good problem solving skills.
