INTRODUCTION:
Acknowledging
the sources from which we gain ideas, insights and information is very
important.
We need to provide information on these sources for several reasons:
-
to
acknowledge that the information is not original - i.e. someone else
published the information first
-
to
provide others with a basis for evaluating the quality of the input
into the work - you have adequately researched your topic
-
to
enable others to trace the sources of the ideas so that they are
able to extend the research
When
conducting research it is important to record the information you will
need for citing quotes and writing a bibliography.
All
information or data that is not original MUST be acknowledged whether or
not it is directly quoted. This includes music, illustrations (pictures,
clipart, video, tables, graphs, etc) and design work; anything that is
not original.
The
information below is a general introduction to the most likely sources
used in Secondary School - check the references in the side panel for
any examples that are not included below.

It may be difficult to include all of the "usual information"
because of the informality inherent with publishing on the Internet.
Include as much information as possible so that the source can be
accessed.)
