Pacific Black Duck
(Anas Superciliosa)


Appearance
The Pacific Black Duck actually has dark brown feathers instead of black. Its head has three dark brown stripes on a whitish buff background. The Pacific Black Duck's bill is a blue-grey colour and the legs are a greenish colour. The lining of its underwing is white which is can be seen in flight when it reflects the light. It is about 47-61 cm.

Voice
The best known call is the loud 5 or 6 quacks that the female makes. The male makes a peeping at breeding time.

Food
The Pacific Black Duck feeds on aquatic plants and other animals.

Habitat
The Pacific Black Duck usually lives in heavily vegetated swamps; also more open waters, wet paddocks and lakes.

Behaviour
Pacific Black Ducks often becomes tame and can feed straight from people's hands, although they are the kind of birds who will burst into flight when disturbed.
