Crested Pigeon
(Ocyphaps lophotes)

Description
Their eyes have a red type ring around them. Their crest is of a black colour and always sticks up.The wings are brown with strips of black through them.

Voice
They make a loud low 'coo' or 'whoop'

Flight
When flying a 'whoo'  sound can be heard every time they flap.
 

Food
They eat seeds of grasses and herbaceous plants.

Habitat
They are found in dry grassland near water on the mainland of Australia. They keep away from forests.

Nest
The make a fragile platform of sticks or twigs usually placed in a bush or a tree.

Behaviour
They travel in groups of two to six and even in large flocks
