Australian White Ibis
(Threskiornis molucca)


Description
It is a large wading bird with white feathers that look dirty. It has a black neck with no feathers and a long beak that curves downwards.

Voice
The main call is a harsh croak or grunting urk.

Flight
It flies in flocks in a V-formation, with all the birds flapping and gliding together at the same time.

Habitat
It can be found in wetlands such as swamps and mangroves.

Food
The Australian White Ibis feeds on insects, such as locusts, grasshoppers and beetles. It also eats small snakes, frogs, crayfish, crabs, mussels and earthworms.

Nest
It builds a stick platform in reeds or bushes in flooded swamps.

Behaviour
When it wades in the water it moves its head from side to side as it finds its food.
