Laughing Kookaburra

(Dacelo novaeguinea)
Appearance
The Laughing Kookaburra has brown upperparts, with some pale blue on its wings. The tail looks like a tiger's skin. It has a brown back from the wings down. It has a whitish head and a white belly.

Male
The males mostly have patches on their rumps. Their tail is brown and black and the edges are white.

Female
The females have brown rumps; and the head is more yellowish brown.

Voice
Their  voice is like a laugh and that is why they are called the laughing kookaburras.

Nests
Kookaburras build their nests in a flat hollow in a tree or a hole hidden in a river bank. 

Habitat
The Kookaburra lives in open forests, woodlands, in parks and along rivers where there are trees.

Food
The  Laughing Kookaburra eats large insects, lizards frogs and snakes.
