Adelaide Rosella
(Platycercus  Elegans  Adelaidae)

Description
The adult rosella has a bright orange red colour on its head and underparts. It has a blue patch on its cheeks. The feathers on its back are black with orange edges. The wings are mainly blue with darker tips. Its rump is orange and the tail is blue. The females and males look alike.

Breeding Season
The breeding season is from September to February.

Voice
The voice is a pleasant ringing whistle or a chattering sound.

Flight
They mostly travel in flocks or occasionally in pairs.

 

Food
The rosella eats seeds and fruit, such as cherries and raspberries, which causes problems for fruit growers as they can damage the flowers, buds and ripening fruit. They also eat wild olives.

Nest
The Adelaide Rosella nests in hollows, high in  trees.

Habitat
It can be seen in areas where there are native trees, such as in the hills or in parks.
