Other Resources

Where have all the butterflies gone? -  This comprehensive site, developed by the South Australian Museum is organised into into environmental habitat groupings. The butterflies and their foodplants are described for each area and the importance of protecting the habitats to ensure survival of the butterflies is highlighted. Teacher information and student worksheets can be downloaded from the site. The link is provided at the bottom of the page.

Butterfly Watch - This program is seeking the support of the general public to provide information about local butterflies and is asking them to record which plants, particularly native plants, that the adult butterflies are feeding on and where butterfly colonies exist. The anticipated outcome will be a comprehensive list of native South Australian plants that attract adult butterflies for distribution to gardeners. The public is encouraged to try their photographic skills and photograph the butterflies and the plants on which they were found. Photos will be exhibited at the South Australian Museum butterfly exhibition in October and November 2007. A Butterfly Watch Form for recording sightings is provided on the Museum website.

Identify your butterfly - This is part of the Butterfly Watch program website and is an excellent guide in helping to identify butterflies. Identification is based on a choice of four colour groupings -  yellow or white, mostly orange or brown, mostly white or cream with black or brown and mostly blue. and three sizes choices - small below 3cm, medium 3cm - 6cm and large more than 6cm open wing expanse.

Butterflies - a list of useful links on Adelaide butterflies from the City of Prospect's Environment and Development section.

South Australian Butterflies - Provides comprehensive information and images of South Australian butterflies, their habitats, conservation status, food plants, identification, data sheets and life histories, butterfly conservation, habitat restoration and information about butterfly gardening.
