Australian Admiral - Vanessa itea

The Australian Admiral has a wingspan of about 60mm. It has an interesting habit of resting head downwards usually with wings open, on fences, tree trunks, rock faces or even walls of buildings. It flies quickly, darting from place to place. It isn't found in tropical areas, and prefers temperate climates, but it can exist in hot, dry climates, wherever its foodplants grow. These include native and non-native nettles, such as the stinging nettle and baby's tears.
