Common Grass-blue - Zizina labradus

The Common Grass-blue has a wingspan of about 22cm. It is one of Australia's most common butterflies and occurs in every state, including Tasmania. It can be found in almost every environment, from mountain to coast. It is common in suburban gardens and can even survive in industrial areas. The larvae feed on both native and non-native pea plants, including garden peas and beans, clover and lucerne. The larvae eat the flowers and leaves as well as the seeds in young seed pods and are therefore seen as pests by some people.
