Common Xenica - Geitoneura klugii

The Common Xenica has a wing span of about 38mm. It can be found in the southern temperate parts of South Australia, including Adelaide. Its natural habitat is heathland, shrubland, woodland and forest. It prefers cool, damp and shady areas where its foodplants, which are grasses such as kangaroo grass and slender tussock grass, stay in a green condition. The young larvae feed on foodplant leaves, but as the larvae get larger, they will also eat all the softer parts of the foodplant including the young seed heads.
