Lesser Wanderer - Danaus chrysippus

The Lesser Wanderer has a wingspan of about 58mm. It can be found in most parts of Australia. Its foodplants include cotton bushes and milk-weed plants, which contains poisonous white sap. The poison doesn't affect the butterfly, but provides defence against its predators, who learn that the Lesser Wanderer doesn't taste nice. Bird predators recognise its bright warning colour and this allows the butterfly to feed openly during the day.
