Meadow Argus - Junonia villida

The Meadow Argus has a wing span of about 45mm. It is a common and wide-spread butterfly and occurs in tropical as well as temperate climates.  Its foodplants include many native as well as non-native plants, such as portulaca, snapdragon and verbena.  It can often be seen flying in open areas, feeding on flowers or resting and sunning itself on the ground with its wings open.
