Orange Palm-dart - Cephrenes augiades

The Orange Palm-dart is a small butterfly, with a wing span of about 25mm. It originally came from tropical areas in the north of Australia. It can now be found in Adelaide in warm and sheltered areas, such as the Botanic Gardens. Its foodplants are palm trees, which do not grow naturally in South Australia. The larvae eat palm leaves and are not very popular with people who grow palms.
