Tailed Emperor - Polyura sempronius

The adult Tailed Emperor has a wing span of up to 110mm. It originally came Queensland and New South Wales where it enjoyed the humid tropical and subtropical climate. It has adapted to temperate climates and can now be found in Adelaide.  It prefers areas where there are trees. The tailed emperor is attracted to rotting fruit and the honeydew produced by scale insects. Its foodplants include ornamental trees such as the Cootamundra wattle and a variety of other wattles. The larvae eat the leaves of the foodplant.
