| The following KidPix teaching
and learning ideas have been aligned with the South Australian Curriculum
Standards and Accountability Framework. The key
elements of the SACSA framework and the explanation of symbols used
on the KidPix activity pages are outlined below.
Kidpix is a versatile open-ended
learning tool that encourages children to investige, explore and take risks.
It facilitates the development of higher order thinking skills, and allows
for constructivist experimentation. Although it is appropriate for independent
learning, it lends itself particularly well to partner activities, by providing
an environment for the discussion of ideas, problem solving, listening
to others, negotiating and cooperating. Because of its flexibility, it
can be easily integrated into most areas of the curriculum.
Most of the work samples provided
on the following pages were created by my Year 3 students, using KidPix
Studio. Other versions of KidPix may also be used, keeping in mind that
the new KidPix Deluxe 3 doesn't provide some of the randomly generated
Wacky Paintbrush options that I used for a variety of Mathematics activities.
I quite often make templates
when working with younger students, because it enables them to focus on
particular ideas and concepts, and avoids them getting bogged down with
unnecessary time-consuming tasks that don't contribute to the learning
process.
