The Village in the Hidden Valley

The village lay nestled in a valley at the foot of a range of steep and rugged mountains that towered up towards the sky in the east and north-east. To the north of the village a stream flowed down from the mountains and formed a deep lake to the west. The lake drained into a large swamp to the south. In the far west and north-west lay a dark, thick forest which was the home of many animals and birds. To the north of the village and the stream, lush green grasslands stretched out towards the ocean, which was just visible in the far distance. A dry and lonely desert lay in the south-east. A narrow path emerged from the forest north of the lake and ran along its edge, crossing the river by means of a rickety wooden bridge. This was the only way into the village.
