How can we design a tour
or resort for ecotourists which will not destroy the natural beauty
that attracts these tourists?
You are a consultant to a tourist company. Your
brief is to design a tour and/or accomodation in an Australian
World Heritage Wilderness Area such The Great Barrier Reef, Kakadu,
Fraser Island, Franklin River, Cradle Mountain etc (any of
Australia's
World Heritage Areas would be suitable), which will
appeal to tourists who want to experience the natural beauty of
the area with minimal impact to its ecosystem.
Ecotourism*
- Contributes to conservation
of biodiversity.
- Sustains the well being
of local people.
- Includes an interpretation
/ learning experience.
- Involves responsible action
on the part of tourists and the tourism industry.
- Is delivered primarily
to small groups by small-scale businesses.
- Requires the lowest possible
consumption of nonrenewable resources.
- Stresses local participation,
ownership and business opportunities, particularly for rural
people.
