1) Why did Theseus go to Crete?

2) How do you think Theseus' father felt when Theseus said he wanted to go as one of the victims?

3) Who wanted to help Theseus with his quest and why?

4) How did Theseus find his way out of the labyrinth after killing the Minotaur?

5) What did Theseus forget to do on his way home and how did this lead to a tragedy?

6) The Minotaur has applied for the role as the star monster in a scary movie. Based on the information in the story, write a scary description for his job application.

7) Rewrite the section where Ariadne helps Theseus as a conversation between them. Don't forget to use quotation marks and start a new paragraph when the speaker changes.

8) Write out a set of stage directions from when Theseus enters the labyrinth until he leaves.

9) Do you think Theseus would have made a good king? Give examples.

10) After reading the story why do you think the game is called Theseus and the Minotaur? How does the storyline of the game and the story differ in their outcomes?

Extension Exercise

In groups of four choose your favourite greek hero and recount an incident from one of his legends where he must defeat a mythical monster e.g. Perseus and Medusa, Herakles and the Hydra, Odysseus and the Cyclopes etc.

Present your recount in one of the following ways:

Write a script and produce a video or a live play for your classmates.

Make a computer animation and present it to your classmates
