HOW USEFUL IS THE WEB ADDRESS (URL)

In 1999, there were more than 800 million web pages. However, web pages may be useless, incorrect and out-of-date.

  1. Check on the credentials of the web address.

  2. Is the writer of the web address part of a university or a library?  Is the writer a student, a lecturer, a professor etc? Is the writer qualified to write about the topic?

  3. How balanced is the point of view of the writer?  Does the writer belong to an organisation that may bias the article eg if the writer belongs to an environmental group, article may or may not be biased towards the environment and may or may not be biased against industry.

  4. Are you able to check on the accuracy of the information?

  5. How recent is the research?
