General Science

Science Fair
This Kodak site gives excellent material to support a photography component within a science fair. It also contains links to other science fair sites.

Mars Photographs
NASA has placed a gallery of 20,000 images of Mars onto the Internet, the biggest single release of planetary images. The archive covers one Mars year (687 Earth days) from September 1997 to August 1999.

Nye Labs
Based on the US TV programme, this science site is perfect for younger students looking for experiments to perform at home - see the "Home Demo" link. This site also contains sound effects and clips from the series that would be useful for students producing their own multi-media science work.

Brain Pop
A highly animated web site on a wide variety of science topics.  This site makes wide use of Flash animation and sounds to present information in an interact way.

Biology

Bird Cam
Another Kodak page with a web cam that allows you to view a family of peregrine falcons in their nest. The picture is updated every five minutes and there are several views. What a fantastic way to bring nature into your classroom! There are additional images if you wish to look at nesting and incubation.

Murder Under The Microscope
Evil In The Estuary. This site uses Flash technology to allow students to investigate the causes of pollution learn more of water and land conservation. Moreton Bay, The Daintree River, Manley Lagoon and The Coorong feature amongst others. A fantastic educational resource for those studying the environmental impact of land use.

The Australian National Botanic Gardens
An excellent online resource provided by The Australian National Botanic Gardens. This site contains information on native species as well as having a comprehensive photographic library.

Incectclopedia
An online encyclopaedia of bugs, spiders and creepy crawlies that forms a great classroom resource for the study of insects and their classification.

DNA From The Beginning
This super web site gives a full and clear explanation of DNA that is suitable for use with students.  It contains animations, diagrams and photographs and explains complex concepts in an accessible manner. 

Chemistry

Chem4Kids
The Chem4Kids web site is a professionally produced resource that provides information on matter, elements, atoms, maths and reactions.

It's Elemental - Flash Cards
A series of online flash cards to assist students in learning or revising the elements and their symbols.  A browser that supports Java applets is required.

Common Compounds
This library of common compounds is produced by Frostburg State University as part of their project to produce quality high school resources for chemistry teachers.  Enter the compounds common name and the database will return information on the chemical name, formula, molecular weight etc.  Other resources are available such as periodic tables and student tutorial notes.

Chem Balancer
An online game to assist students in learning how to balance chemical equations. This site focuses on solving simple equations by inspection and would be suitable for younger high school pupils.

Physics

Physics Web
This site brings together links to physics related java applets, VRML and shockwave movies. It covers topics such as optics, waves and, that all time favourite, "Buffon's Needle Monte Carlo Simulation" (apparently used to estimate Pi).

Amusement Park Physics
The science behind all of your favourite rides at the Amusement Park.  How do the laws of physics affect amusement park ride design?

The Theatre of Electricity
The Boston Museum of Science has an excellent online exhibition about electricity. The site includes a lightning safety quiz suitable for younger students.
