Acid Tips & Checklist

Below is a checklist of questions you should print out and tick off whenever you create music using Acid.

Creating the music

  • Put a lot of thought into your composition
  • Be fussy with the loops you use! Don't just choose anything
  • Use your understanding of the main CONCEPTS of MUSIC
    • Stay with the one musical STYLE you have chosen
    • Use KEY and TEMPO changes
    • Make sure you have a clear STRUCTURE
    • Use DYNAMIC CONTRAST.
    • BUILD your music up and let it DROP in different sections - tease your audience
    • Change the PITCH of individual loops or whole bars to make chord progressions and musical interest
  • Think about the overall sound of your piece. If it sounds good, do it, if not, don't.

Using the software

  • Know the difference between the PAINTBRUSH and the PENCIL tools to draw loops in. Know when to use each.
  • Using a small part or single beat of a loop will allow you to make more interesting "Rap" sections and rhythms
  • Learn to ZOOM in and out and use the GRID. Notice it changes according to the zoom setting.
  • Adjust the PANNING (L-R) and VOLUME levels to create a good mix. Spend time getting the Mix right. The mix can make a big difference to the final sound of a song
  • Remember:-

"Less Is Best" and "K.I.S.S."
(Keep It Simple Stupid!)
