Read through the text on the left. Think about what you would do if you had to deal with an equipment fault. What steps would you take.
Put the steps on the right hand side in the correct order.
Equipment faults are when the computer equipment ceases functioning. Help desk personel are usually at the other end of a phone line to help guide you through
problems that might occur with equipment, and can be fixed by coaching someone
through a process.
Some major faults require a service technician to be called out. Service technicians are not always employed by the manufacturer, and in fact most are contractors and fix numerous types and brands of equipment. If equipment is under warranty, the supplier of the equipment will arrange to have the equipment serviced, as per the warranty agreement.
Sometimes equipment is beyond repair and requires replacement.
Some of the causes of major faults are:
♦ Equipment is faulty to begin with
♦ The computer equipment has been mistreated
♦ The operator is inexperienced
♦ Lack of maintenance
♦ Age of the equipment
♦ External forces, such a power surges or water damage
If the fault is causing smoke (or any other disturbances or safety hazards),
immediately turn off the equipment, remove it from the power source, and call a
supervisor or safety representative immediately.
