Tashi and the Genie
Tashi found a genie in a bowl, but does Tashi know that the genie has a secret?

1.  Look at the picture on the cover of the book and those on pages 18 and 19.  Why isn't Tashi smiling while he flies on the magic carpet?

The genie is too lazy to make Tashi's wishes come true.
He is scared because the carpet isn't working properly

The carpet was dipping and bucking and Tashi thought he was going to crash.

3. In the picture on p34, why is Uncle Tiku Pu looking so angry and the genie looking so happy?

Rebecca, Donovan Rappers
The genie was happy because every 7th time a person rubbed the bowl, the person that rubbed it becomes a genie and the genie becomes a person.
Amanda. Donovan Rappers
The genie is happy because the genie wanted to go to the city but uncle Tiku Pu didn't because he did not like getting bitten by spiders and alligators.
Thomas, Kingston Rappers
The genie was happy because every 7th time someone would rub the old bowl and the genie would become a person.
Tamara. Donovan Rappers.

4. Tashi asked the genie for an enormous sack of gold to build a palace for his family, a flying carpet and to meet his Uncle Tiki Pu. Why did the genie not give Tashi his exact wishes?  What would you wish for?

The genie did not give Tashi the exact wishes because the genie is so lazy. I would wish for a rabbit and a horse.
Amanda, Donovan Rappers
The genie is lazy so they did not get there wishers, I would wish for a cat, dog and rabbit.
Tamara., Donovan Rappers
We think the genie was lazy. The genie was old and losing his powers. Tashi woke the genie up too many times. Too many people asked him for wishes and he had no strength left. Our wish would be to be famous.
