Carnival of the Animals Pan Macmillan hardcover book & CD
|
This
book contains poems about mostly Australian animals. It also has a CD
with Peter Garrett reading the poems, with music from the Carnival of
the Animals. The music is a classical type music. The music was
originally done by Saint- Saens. Some parts to the music are O. K.
others can get boring. Parts of the music go with the animals, others do
not. At the end of the CD there is a piece of music that is about all of
the animals. There is a part on the CD that is just about the pianists.
Some of the poems are recited from the book others are changed a little
bit. The
layout of the pages and pictures is really good. The way the poems rhyme
is really, really good. The pictures don’t really help the reader to
understand the text. Some pictures look like the animals, others just
look weird. On some of the pages there are funny little pictures. I
think the CD is mainly for younger children (unless you like opera). The
poems are read out really well, with really good expression. Some animal
pictures are drawn with little human faces. The introduction explains
the nature of this book really well. On some poems you need to be an
experienced reader. This
book would probably appeal to children between the ages of 8-14. Some of
the poems are younger children, others for older children. Some of the
poems contain inappropriate text. Mitchell,

Leunig is one of Australia's best-known and most imaginative
cartoonists. The text for Carnival of the Animals was created for a
series of sell-out concerts around Australia during April and May this
year. The concerts featured the Australian Chamber Orchestra and were
narrated by Peter Garrett. The idea was taken from the original words of
Ogden Nash and the pleasure of Saint-Saen's music. The animals featured
include the cat, the rabbit, the crocodile, the lizard, the wombat; and
as the finale, a grand parade Review taken from |
