Dirty Rotten Tricks is a realistic story about crime, by Simon Cheshire. It was first published in 2000 by Walker Books.

This story is about a boy, called Sam whose father owns a junk shop. A professional con man steals a one million-pound painting that Sam's father needs to pay the bank so that he can keep everything he has got. Sam's secret book of worries is filling up fast, so join the group as they try to recover the painting and save his house.

This book is for children about ten to fourteen years of age. The book's topic is interesting and the story outline is very well set out with a good conclusion. There are a few illustrations (which I did not really like) which match the text on the following page.

The style and size of the print is very easy to read.  The layout does assist the reader. This is a read-alone book and I believe that it is a very interesting and enjoyable book for its age group.

Dirty Rotten Tricks by Simon Cheshire is a comic story about a boy who tricks a con man (who had stolen a million-dollar painting) into trading it for a dud.  The boy and his friends go to extraordinary lengths to retrieve the painting and they have a hilarious and devious journey.

Children of all ages would love to read this story because the storyline is absurdly fast and humorous, just what kids who are aged between 8 and 14 like. I liked this story because it is funny and because the characters go to extraordinary lengths to solve their problems.  If you read the book I hope you like it too.
