The House That Was Eureka is a book that jumped backwards and forwards between the present day and 1931 during the depression. The four main characters in this book are Nobby and Lizzie, who are from 1931, and Noel and Evie who are from the present day. The story mainly revolves around the fact that Nobby’s mother is evicting her family from their home. This makes things hard for Nobby because he is Lizzie’s best friend, so he is seen as a traitor by both sides. Noel and Evie are involved because they live in Nobby and Lizzie’s old houses and they keep dreaming about the things that happened during that time. I found that this was a very good read, one which just kept getting better and better right to the point where I didn’t want to put in down. In some parts though it was a bit confusing so you had to sometimes read things a couple of times before you figured out what was going on. But I think that was just because it jumped between the times so often.
I
would recommend this book to anyone who is about 14 and up and who enjoys
a little bit of fiction mixed with a little bit of fact.
