Searching requires the user to insert
key words or phrases into a search engine
or database to find sites or articles that match the search criteria. In the
current information deluge we are likely to get 'too many' results rather than
'too few' or perhaps just irrelevant results.
There are numerous techniques available to help produce effective search results
but
the
searcher must
be prepared to
adapt the search
and conduct multiple searches, depending on the results achieved at each stage.
Some of the techniques for effective searching are inherent in many search
engines and online databases. These include the use of
Boolean operators,
phrase searching, the use of
the concept of a wildcard
and proximity searching.
Online databases have the added advantage of allowing the searcher to limit the
search to specific fields
of data, such as author, title, date etc. Follow the hotlinks within this page
for specific search techniques or select a link from the search tutorials below.
if you've learned enough go to the Evaluation and Conclusion

or use the site contents to find your way back
to search engines or any other page.
