Using the site for professional development

Whether you are exploring the site independently or facilitating a professional development session using this site it may be helpful to make yourself familiar with the anticipated outcomes in the evaluation rubric and the full list of pages via the site contents.

The 3 major areas for exploration are Web Sites, Search Engines and Online Databases.
Most attention is given to  evaluating websites,  but other subtopics include various searching skills.

The site incorporates a simple modular approach with branching to offer choices for users depending on personal needs. It includes both theoretical and practical aspects and as such it is important for a facilitator to identify individual or group needs and direct the session accordingly.

There are numerous links to external sites, tutorials and WebQuests as well as activities and worksheets which may be completed individually or as a group.

Participants should be encouraged to interact with  other participants as well as content to ensure they benefit from the social interaction that enhances deep learning. During the session they should reflect on new knowledge and skills they have gained and plan ways to incorporate them in their own teaching/learning context.
