RBL revisited
Teacher librarians should be very much aware of this and can use that to 'hook' teachers into renewing their collaborative relationship. Those who wish to do so are welcome to use my PD materials as listed elsewhere e.g. "RBL revisited" - a PD package I prepared for my own staff, which has since 'morphed' into a "Welcome Pack" that forms part of the induction process for all new teachers and student teachers at my school. I also present an RBL - creating independent learners seminar to all student teachers when they first arrive; and we have several groups each year - catch 'em early, I say!
RBL has long been recognised as a means to improve information literacy. It has several 'close relatives' in Project Based, Problem Based or Inquiry Based Learning as explained on the RBL Links page. The plethora of information formats and sources can only be effectively harnessed when driven by constructivist pedagogy, to create and guide learners through an online learning experience. In South Australia, constructivism underpins the implementation of SACSA (South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability ) - which I have seized as another opportunity to revitalise the collaborative partnership of teacher librarian and teacher. As can be seen by the range of presentations and workshops I have delivered, I am pro-active in supporting teacher trying to implement these curricular reforms that now emphasise the explicit teaching of process skills rather than just content.
