Caring for Southern Right Whales

The southern right whale is an endangered species.
About 2000 to 3000 Southern Right Whales are left in the world.  600 to 800 visit southern Australian waters to mate and calve.

Threats to  the southern right whale:-

Pollution- plastic bags and plastic litter get washed out to sea.
Harassment by people in boats and planes who are whale watching.
Big ships have accidents and oil is spilled at sea.
Whales and other sea creatures get tangled up in fishing nets.
Unsafe ocean space means loss of habitat and food supplies.

The garbage that you throw away, and others throw away will make its way to the seas and pollute the oceans. Pollution is dangerous to whales as well to all living beings.

Participate in beach clean up programs.  The little work you do by cleaning up a beach will make it nicer for everyone, and less dangerous for animals.
