You name it! You can find it! There are:

  • Fully functional software programs

  • Updates and patches to software programs

  • Electronic texts such as books and tutorials

  • Thousands of images, sounds, video clips, and animations

  • Technical reports, journals, electronic magazines, news summaries, and archives of user messages

  • Books and tutorials.

     There are text files consisting of writings, reports, books, journals, magazines, and other articles. There are binary files consisting of graphics, sound clips, video and shareware software packages. Look at the file extension of the file you are about to download and see if it is in this list:

  • .txt - an ASCII text file that is readable using Notepad (SimpleText on a Macintosh)

  • .asc - an ASCII text file that can be read in any word processing program

  • .doc - can be a text file or a Microsoft Word document

  • .gif - Graphics Interchange Format, colorful graphics

  • .jpg - Joint Photographic Experts Group, photographic images

  • .exe - an executable file

  • .zip - an archived file that has been compressed using Zip encoding

  • .hqx - an archived file that has been compressed using BinHex encoding

  • .sit - an archived file that has been compressed using Stuffit encoding

  • .sea - self-extracting archived file
