English Assessment
Policy 2009
We have 5 core
beliefs about assessment.
-
Assessment tasks are
important learning experiences.
-
Assessment tasks are opportunities for creativity.
-
Assessment tasks include an element of public performance.
-
Tasks
assess the learning objectives of the unit.
-
Expectations of quality are explicit and published
with the task
While some tasks do set out to measure what you have learned about a topic, all tasks also teach you a range
of learning and work related skills and you learn more about the topic
or concept while you are doing the tasks.
In our experience effective assessment tasks
allow you
to create something of your own and you are able to choose what you
do and how you do it. While some tasks do need to measure what you can
do, we try to include at least one creative task in each unit.
A third and important feature of
our approach to assessment is the importance of 'public performance'.
When you are called on to demonstrate what you know and can do, you step up to the task and
challenge yourself to do your very best. Every time you do this, scary
as it may sometimes be, you gain in confidence and you learn important
work skills.
We think these learning
experiences are so important that we set aside lesson time to complete
tasks. You may work on some aspects of the tasks at home but must work on
them during lessons allocated. You will have help from
the class teacher, can use resources and technology and can work
with other students . Working on tasks in class time allows the teacher
to verify the originality of your work.
The information about individual assessment tasks on this webpage is
general. The tasks are linked on the page
2009 Assessment Tasks. You should refer to the written assessment information given to
you by your class teacher for specific details and due dates. |
