Matrixposters

Teacher's Notes: In this lesson students develop their visual literacy skills and reflect on the role of promotional videos both in arousing audience interest and 'pre-viewing' the film. Students can be provided with a table to make their comparisons. Ideally students work through the questions with a partner and then work in small teams to discuss and share.

You must open each link in a new window.

Working with your partner, examine the five promotional posters at What is the Matrix?

(To get to the posters: Click one of the 'Enter' links. Click on the arrow in The Matrix button at the top of the screen. Click on Posters.  Use the links on the left of the screen to look at each poster)

Answer these questions

  1. What is the most striking visual feature?
  2. What aspect of the film is each poster emphasising?
  3. How would you describe the mood of each poster?

Team Discussion

  1. What are the differences between Posters 1 and 4?
  2. Why do you think Poster 4 and 5 were not released?
  3. Which poster would you choose for an Australian cinema release and why?

 Write a reflection
