Write a Story

Home | Up

Teacher's Notes: This lesson uses an interactive site and could be set for homework or enrichment. It can be used in any unit on writing narratives, most likely at the beginning as a way of engaging students in the unit. The revision questions are a checklist or could be used for peer evaluation of the story.

Remember the 5 steps!

Plan, Draft, Revise, Edit, Publish!

Plan and Draft

Go to It's My Story . Choose any story and complete the blanks. When you finish "write your story" and read it! You can print it if you are in a computer room with a printer.

Use the following questions to Revise the draft.

  1. Does the reader have a clear picture of the main character?

  2. Will the reader care about the problem facing the main character?

  3. Does the reader have a clear picture of where, when and why this is happening?

  4. Is the resolution satisfying for the reader?

  5. Will the reader have something to think about in their own life after reading this story?

  6. What do you need to add, change or remove?

Edit the draft.

Check for accurate sentence construction, punctuation, spelling, paragraphing and vocabulary choices.

Publish the story!

Print it, use pictures to illustrate, email it to a friend or send it into a writing website, share it!
