Writing Stories 2

Home | Up

Teacher's Notes: This lesson is about using an interactive programme to plan a story. The interactive site ReadWriteThink has many useful interactive tools. The task could be set for homework, for pair work or as an enrichment task.

1.Open the Literary Elements Map. Use the graphic organisers to build up ideas for a story that begins with the sentence: At the end of the street a light gleamed faintly through the trees. Print the sheets

2. Open and save a word document with the title of your story. Make sure you save this file in your personal account. Using the characters, setting, conflicts and resolution sheets write the story.

3. Revise your draft by answering the following questions:

  • Have you described characters, action and setting?

  • Have you created a mood?

  • Have you used dialogue?

  • Is the moral of your story clear?

  • How do your friends rate your story? Exciting? Interesting? full of action?

4. Check your story for spelling and grammatical errors. Don't rely on the spell and grammar checkers. Make sure the title and your name are on the story.

5. Print a copy of your story. Show your teacher. and/or publish it online.
